Review: The Fountains of Paradise

The Fountains of Paradise
The Fountains of Paradise by Arthur C. Clarke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I listened to this as an audiobook on a long journey which helped focus my attention. I’m not sure if I had been reading I would have got through it so quick as it is a little slow to start. After a slow start with plenty of scene setting, the story moves on to architect/scientist Vannevar Morgan who wants to build an elevator into space. The story then proceeds to pick up the pace a little as it moves through the planning hurdles and onto construction and the resulting problems.

I did enjoy this story but I can’t say how it compares to Arthur C Clarke’s other books as I haven’t read any for over twenty years. As this book was published nearly 25 years ago it has held up well and shows the visionary foresight of Arthur C Clarke.
